9NAFDAC Boss Gives Update on Nigeria Benin joint destruction exercise of Tramadol

The Director General of NAFDAC Prof. Modupe Christiana Adeyeye has applauded the joint destruction exercise between Nigeria and Benin Republic of the falsely labelled as building materials and computers containers smuggled  into the country.


While acknowledging the Nigerian presidency, Adeyeye expressed appreciation to the customs  controller general colonel Ahmed Ali. rtd. the  ministry of foreign affairs, the Nigerian ambassador of Nigeria to Benin for their resilience and professionalism for ensuring the the agency mandate was carried out. 


The regulatory and control mandate of NAFDAC following a tip off from the presidency in in August 2018, the ports inspection directorate of agency swung into action to apprehend a the shipment of 31containers unregistered of pharmaceutical products including Tramadol above the approved prescription limit.


Adeyeye revealed that, 21 of the containers were discharged in Apapa port, Lagos, and the rest diverted to Malaysia and Cotonou in Benin Republic. However, the containers were ceded to Nigeria for destruction after more than a year held in custody of the  Benin authorities.


Discovered in the smuggled containers were , Tramadol 1, 276 cartons, Tramadol 250 mg, 571 cartons, Tramadol 120mg 129 cartons, Tramadol 225mg, 415 cartons, and also  Reely extra diclophenal tablets 50mg 58 cartons, Reltiy diclophenal tablets 24 cartons  package in regular inflammatory pharmaceutical products valued at  95billion naira.
