DSS ORDERS NNPC, IPMAN, NUPENG,TO END FUEL SCARCITY IN 48 HOURS

A 48 hours ultimatum has been issued by the Department of State Services,DSS  to stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to put to an end fuel scarcity which has become a recurring decimal in the economic life of Nigeria.

The Department of State Services ,DSS categorically stated that after the ultimatum,it would clamp down on saboteurs if the queues at  filling stations accross the country donot  stop. 

The Secret Service spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, disclosed this at the agency headquarters in Abuja yesterday, after the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, met with major stakeholders in the oil industry .

The stakeholders in attendance at the meeting included: Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), depot operators, among others.

 The DSS boss made it clear to the stakeholders at the meeting that “enough is        enough”, saying “we made it clear that whatever the hurdles are, they must be      resolved, adding Nigerians have every right to access fuel”, Afunanya Added.''The   DSS decided to intervene in the matter because it has the mandate                         investigate economic sabotage, including detecting and preventing threats to             national security'', the secret service spokesman re-mphasized.                             

Afunanya maintained that, the agency handed marching orders to all parties involved that DSS cannot continue to tolerate the incessant fuel scarcity,stressing the stakeholders have to leave no stone un turned to bring back to the country sufficient supply of petrol.

Afunanya said NNPCL has agreed to sell fuel at the official ex-depot price to all marketers nationwide. NNPCL also disclosed that it has sufficient stock of product, about 1.9 billion litres for distribution across the country even until after the Yuletide period while MOMAN, NNPCL and IPMAN from time to time will review the distribution chain to ensure that all bottlenecks concerning distribution are permanently resolved to ensure that the product is available for 24hrs every day.

He cautioned Nigerians not to take laws into their hands, noting that the DSS had extracted commitment from the stakeholders that all issues will be resolved within the next 48hrs.
