UNCERTAINTY HITS ABUJA-KADUNA TRAIN RESUMPTION DATE
By Collins Vershima/ Nkoyo Etim
The Minister of Transportation Mua’zu Sambo has disclosed that the resumption date for the Kaduna-Abuja train services has been extended. He made this revelation at an inspection tour to assess the readiness of the Abuja-Kaduna rail services before the commencement of operations on Sunday in Kaduna.
However, early this month, the federal
government had promised that the Kaduna-Abuja train service would resume on
Monday, 28th November, 2022.
The rail service of the Abuja-Kaduna train was suspended following
the attack on the train on 28th March, 2022 when terrorists planted explosives
that derailed the train.
The Minister,
who could not give a definite date for the resumption of the rail service,
stated that its resumption would not be more than a week. Mua’zu Sambo said his
ministry has introduced a new system of purchasing tickets, which he said is
the beginning of security checks that would assist the government to know who
boards the train at every point in time.
