INEC’S DETERMINATION TO DELIVER CREDIBLE ELECTIONS IN 2023 IS THREATENED

Determined to deliver free and fair elections in Nigeria’s general elections in 2023,the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has re-stated the disposition of the electoral body to bringing into fruition credible polls in africa’s most populous nation in the face of the repeated attacks on the Commission’s offices across the country.

The electoral umpire decried how the repeated attacks on their facilities with the cases in Ogun, Osun and Ebony states may hamper with operations designed to make the general elections a huge success.

 However, the INEC Boss re-emphasised that the commission would not be deterred by the challenges, noting that it was ready to conduct free and fair elections.

 Mahmood Yakubu made the disclosure at the visit of the African Union Special Pre-Electoral Political Mission to the commission on Monday 28 November,2022.The most recent attack on INEC facilities took place in Ebonyi state on Sunday 27 November.

A huge number of the materials acquired and delivered for the election have been lost but no casualty was recorded.

Ealier, Yakubu expressed optimism that INEC will recover from the losses using the deployment of technology for the purpose of accreditation and uploading of polling units revealing that INEC has deployed fifty percent  of non-sensitive materials ahead of the 2023 elections.
