BUHARI CALLS ON AFRICAN LEADERS TO SEEK SOLUTION TO ECONOMIC HARDSHIP, INSIST ON FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has
urged west african legislators to evolve implementable legal frameworks for
mitigation of the ravaging global economic crisis that has taken a negative toll
with untold hardship on citizens of west african countries.
Speaking at the 2022 Second Ordinary Session
of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja yesterday ,whilst declaring the session open
,Mohammadu Buhari urged the sub-regional parliamentarians to use the second session of the ECOWAS parliament to
lay legal frameworks for community budget among many concerns for the west
african sub-region.
Buhari reiterated
that the global economic downturn has deeply affected the economies of west African
countries as such he reminded the sub-regional parliamentarians that the
sub-regional legislative session was timely and should be instrumental to the
formulation of well-thought out economic recovery and developmental plans to
put to an end the dire economic hardships of west Africans.
In a related
development President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his administration’s
commitment to ensuring free fair and credible election come 2023. Muhammadu
Buhari made this known at the opening
session of the 2022 second Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament.
He mentioned
that there will be multiple political activities in some ECOWAS members States,
including Nigeria, where general elections are due to be held in February and
March 2023, whilst he reiterated his administration’s commitment to free, fair
and transparent elections and smooth transition. Buhari concluded that he will
leave a legacy to bequeath, not only to Nigeria but to the region as a whole.
