Breaking: Buhari Slammed Govs Tampering with Council Funds

President Muhammadu Buhari  has expressed disappoinment on Governors over what he described as their unfair treatment of the administration at the local government level.

The President spoke from the heart after delivering his speech at an event hosted for members of the Senior Executive Course 44 (2022) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Citing a personal experience involving an unnamed Governor, the President portrayed the sort of corrupt practices perpetrated by some Governors in dispensing resources meant for local councils’ administrations.

He said it beats anyone’s imagination how some Governors would collect money on behalf of council areas in their States only to remit half to the council chairman, who would further deplete the remittance in further pilfering of public resources.

He related the situation to lack of integrity among many of those holding such offices.

Such actions, he said, are despicable and speak of the height of corruption in the country.

One Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Attack INEC Office And Police Station In Anambra

  By Our Reporter    Gunmen early hours of Wednesday attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The gunmen also attacked the Nnobi Police Station and a residential building within the station, located  in the Council Area. Eyewitness account  that the gun men, while shooting sporadically killed a 16-year-old boy, a relative of a serving policeman in the station, while the another victim, a 15-year-old female, sustained a gunshot injury and has been taken to the hospital where she is receiving treatment. Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said security had been reinforced in the areas, just as the situation is still being monitored.
