EDO PDP Crisis: Obaseki Faction Wins, Party Chair, Aziegbemi, Says Supreme Court Judgment Is Collective Win

By Our Reporter  Edo State  Peoples Democratic Party has lauded the Supreme court judgment which recognised candidates of  Governor Godwin Obaseki faction as constituting the authentic list of national and state assemblies’ candidates for the February 25 election. With the judgment delivered by the supreme court on Wednesday, the case has become res judicata with a clear end to further appeal. The judgment has now laid to rest the weeks and months of litigation and contestation between the factions on the sensitive issue of control and validation of candidates for this month’s polls. But whether the outcome of the litigation will birth peace and harmony in the party remains to be seen given the amount of bile and animosity that had been invested in the battle for the soul of the party.   By Our Reporter  Cross River State Commissioner for Women  Mrs Gertrude Njar has been reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday at about 9:30 am  According to report, Njar was carried away at Mbukpa axis of Calabar South LGA. Kukuruku News gathered that her shoes were found in the Creek of Calabar South by the security operatives. Meanwhile, Mr. Kenneth Abang has been abducted alongside his family on Monday . Mr Kenneth Abang He was kidnapped while traveling to attend his father’s burial planning meeting in Boki LGA of Cross River State Nigeria, South south region. According to report reaching kukuruku News, Kenneth Abang, who was kidnapped around Biase- Calabar Highway with Eunice, are expected to have their father buried on the 3rd and 4th February 2022 at Okundi community.

One Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Attack INEC Office And Police Station In Anambra

  By Our Reporter    Gunmen early hours of Wednesday attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The gunmen also attacked the Nnobi Police Station and a residential building within the station, located  in the Council Area. Eyewitness account  that the gun men, while shooting sporadically killed a 16-year-old boy, a relative of a serving policeman in the station, while the another victim, a 15-year-old female, sustained a gunshot injury and has been taken to the hospital where she is receiving treatment. Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said security had been reinforced in the areas, just as the situation is still being monitored. Although he did not disclose the names of those involved, El-Rufai said that those working against Tinubu were aggrieved that Tinubu defeated their candidate in the APC presidential primaries, and that these elements were hiding behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to do what he thought was right. Court Orders Arrest Of Kano APC Chairman Abbas Over Threat Utterances

By Our Reporter  A Federal High Court in Kano has issue an order for the investigation, arrest and prosecution of All Progressives Congress, APC, chairman Abdullahi Abbas. Abbas was  accused of threat to life, disruption of peace and hate speeches in a suit filed by Mahmoud Lamido. The Kano indigene, through his counsel Bashir Yusuf Muhammad, told the court that Abbas, in a phone call, insinuated that he would kill him (sai na batar da kai). Kukuruku gathered that Justice S. A. Amobeda adjourned the matter to 16th of February to monitor compliance. The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Kano has described the ruling as “a milestone achievement” for democracy. CBN Clarifies Issues On Old Naira Acceptance After Feb 10

   By Our Reporter The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says after the  February 10 deadline for Naira Swap, Nigerians will only be able to redeem the face value of the Naira at the CBN and not at commercial banks. The Director of Corporate Communications Department at the CBN, Osita Nwanisobi said this on Tuesday while interacting with newsmen. He said this clarification became important following the position of the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, that old N200, N500 and N1,000 will be accepted after the February 10, 2023 fresh deadline. He explained that the old notes would cease to be legal tender after the February 10, 2023, and can no longer be used for any form of transaction afterward. He added that the acceptance will be subject to meeting certain conditions. The duration for the acceptance of the old notes after the expiration of the deadline was, however, not stated. The directive followed the inability of the Permanent Secretary, William Alo to effectively defend the expenditure of a whopping N13.9 billion before the panel having appeared on behalf of the Ministry. NNPC Takes Over Addax Petroleum Assets

  By  Our Reporter Following a Transfer, Settlement, and Exit Agreement (ATSEA), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has taken over the assets of Addax Petroleum Development (Nigeria) Limited. This is coming three months after the execution of the ATSEA for the PSC Oil blocks, OMLs 123/124 & 126/137, operated by the company. NNPC Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Garba Deen Muhammad, in a statement on Tuesday,  said all closing obligations have been concluded and the Assets have been transferred to the Concessionaire, NNPC Limited. The statement said the NNPC has taken necessary steps to take over the assets and oversee a clean, amicable, and speedy exit for Addax Petroleum Ltd., operate the asset on interim basis as a first step and subsequently appoint a competent replacement PSC contractor while NNPC Limited continues to remain the Concessionaire of the assets in line with extant laws and regulations.
